The ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates described several forms of cancer, referring to them as carcinos, the Greek word for crab or crayfish. So it’s a safe bet to say that cancer has been with us for a long, long time.
Our approach to cancer is changing, however. Researchers and clinicians are beginning to consider new definitions, updated screening recommendations and innovative treatments. Patients and doctors are taking a different approach to treatment and recovery. Everything from information to attitudes are changing about the disease.
ABC Health held a tweet chat Tuesday covering many of the ideas that are evolving in the world of cancer. The chat was moderated by Dr. Richard Besser, ABC News chief health and medical correspondent, and attended by top expert organizations like the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute and the American Association for Cancer Research.
